Whats with the liberals tendency to endorse candidates that come up with whacky alt-medicine claims

I was reading the paper having a coffee at my local cafe and I read that a Liberal candidate in WA is pushing some
sort of unproved anti-parasite drug as a coronavirus treatment. The candidate says its a cheap option at two bucks a throw.
Why the heck would a Liberal candidate say this as it can be seen as undermining the vaccine program to which
Federal Liberals have committed billions of dollars.

There seems to be a common theme with some in the Liberal ranks. Unproven alternative medications, climate change denying
and hate renewables but madly in love with lumps of coal and fossil fuels generally.

Weird to me but you might have an explanation why this happens.

It will be the undoing of of the Liberal Party if they aren't careful with the pre-selection process. They are facing a wipeout in WA
and that tells the story
