Happy to get anyone else's opinion on this who has more local knowledge of Malaysia and Indonesia, but I have seven staff who work for me out of the Philippines. They get paid monthly. Invariably, each month at least 2-3 of them ask if they can get paid early. It's either to cover an electricity bill, Telco, internet or sometimes for medecine for a sick relative or some other cost. If the majority of our underbanked and unbanked sector also gets paid monthly in Malaysia and Indonesia, imagine the appeal of BNPL. They could spread their payments over 1-3 months, ensuring they always get a pay packet in-between to cover their costs.
We have been discussing what sort of uptake there would be. I think the above would be a huge reason for them to do it and IOU already has connections with utility and Telco companies. Happy for any imput here from locals.
