    this situation recalls pre-Maggie T days, when governments felt an obligation to rescue various industries in order to save jobs. Not that I ever liked Maggie, but the result of the rescuing efforts was always dismal - often because the unions extorted the government for short term gain and long term pain - which is how come Maggie got elected in the first place. So, now Gordon brown is involved we might expect some short term good news but, - absent a change of government in UK - long term decline in UK ports throughput. imho.
