I think the implications of today's announcement are:
- the demonstrated 99.97% purity is like four-minute mile breakthrough, once it is shown to be achievable the others will follow with additional processes and costs
- it will be interesting for some of the other Li producers since their processing is done in China - perhaps they can develop their own purification processes as an add-on to existing evap ponds
- the premium sector, less sensitive to the cost of batteries, will be first to demand the high purity Li - hybrid Ferrari, Taycan, Merc, high-end Teslas, Lucid
- later the existing battery standard purity 99.5% Li will only be good for trucks and buses
- time to market is very important to get the highest premium price - since early adopters are usually not bothered about the price but want the best performance and quality
- it would be great if LKE could provide even a low volume of the premium product from its pilot plant to secure the premium market as soon as possible
