I think it's actually a pretty fair deal.
George basically gets the "option" to buy at today's prices but instead of buying on market the cash goes to the company at a later date.
That way if the company is successful he makes a killing like the rest of us and if it flops he essentially isn't paid for his services.
Reading between the lines sounds like George will get something big over the line and within a short timeframe.
