If you read the REX financial report you will see that the routes they have been pushed out of have very low passenger numbers anyway and we're unprofitable. If there was enough demand for one flight a week I'm sure they would do it.

Do you think QAN with its huge overheads is making profit from routes that not even REX can afford to fly in? QAN is hurting itself with its actions more so than REX. It's a loose loose situation and it all comes down to who looses more, and that is QAN!

However, the routes that were abandoned are being replaced with higher traffic routes. Overall passenger numbers for REX will increase with the changes.

You can see that Ansett was around from 1937 to 2001. In 2001 they went into administration with total debts of AU$3 billion, I am sure weeks before the administration there were devout Ansett supporters who were backing them and would never think anything could happen to their beloved Ansett.

Today QAN has around AU$5.9 billion in debt and is carrying this burden in the worst Aviation business collapse since aviation started! How long can they carry this load? There wont be profit for QAN for at least the next 2 years. Just because they were profitable before COVID does not mean they can weather this storm.

Yes, they have AU$3 billion in savings but this is pocket change when their debt is AU$5.9 billion and they are losing money every month!

QAN was built on its publicity and you can see now how much publicity REX is getting! Virgin is still there but who's talking about them?

Ansett came and went, QAN took over and is here and will go. Same dog different coat. Now REX is the new kid on the block and all the eyes and lips are about them. History repeats itself and you only have to look back and study the details and financials to see what will happen in the years to come.
