The Tsingshan announcement yesterday blasted a big hole in the 'EV Boom' nickel narrative. If Tsingshan can produce EV-grade nickel from pig nickel (as they claim), the supply bottleneck is permanently solved.
This is the development (alongside spiking yields and general turmoil across the broad metals market!) that caused nickel prices to collapse over the past 24 hours. One has to wonder, how much of the current nickel spot price was speculative froth attributable to anticipation of EV-driven demand?
