I literally commented on that issue about 4 posts above:
'If Lukoil end up with FARs stake then WPL can still sell down to approximately 50.5% and avoid any sanction issues if Lukoil preempt a subsequent sale.'
Certainly not an ideal scenario for WPL but hardly the major issue that many make it out to be here.
PC did not indicate any concern of Lukoil joining the venture via FAR, although I suspect they would outbid lukoil if the price is right.
WPL were pretty much forced to PE the CNE/Lukoil sale as the CNE stake was above sanction limits, that is not the case for FAR's stake.
Also WPL own 50-60% of their Australian oilfields so owning big stakes in oil fields is not unusual for WPL.
