Yes Atomu I agree that some military campaigns have been motivated by revenge, following personal attacks upon family members of government officials.
But you know as well as I do that a government cannot afford to acquiese in a terrorist hostage situation. The terrorist/freedom-fighter says "You must do this (get out of our country etc) OR we will cut your son's head off". To give in to these demands only breeds more of this type of tactic because the terorrist/freedom fighter knows it works well. Thats obvious.
Where you are right is that the violence of the affected government comes afterwards...in the form of its own revenge upon the terrorist. Unthinking governments such as the Bush administration believe that by carrying out massive scale military invasions and revenge attacks that this will stop terrorism - it won't it makes it worse. The irony is that US blundering in the Middle East since the 1970's has caused most of the angst and current terrorism in the first place.
The solution to terrorism is not revenge and further violence. We see this method fail every day in the actions of the deluded Zionists, and semitic desert dwellers who only know an "eye for an eye".
The key to stopping terrorism is understanding WHY it occurs and CHANGING THE MINDSET of the terrorist through CLEVER tactics which do not include killing civilians in the countries where terror occurs.
The thing that annoys me is that in Australia the terror threat is still vastly overestimated and played up by the Government, the tabloid media and internet psychos like Thurlow,Yak,Swaam,Masta,Ghost to name a few.
There has never been a terrorist attack here. Even the perpetrators of the Bali bombings admitted they were not specifically targetting Australians, but Westerners in general and particularly Americans.
The Australian bloke who was convicted for conducting surveillance of the Israeli embassy in Canberra was puportedly helping or conspiring to kill Jews not Australians. The Israeli embassy is not Australian soil. It is Israeli soil inside Australia. This is the closest we have come to a terrorist event in this country, and there is no evidence to say an attack was even going to occur (it was only surveillance which he admitted to) and Australians weren't even the targets.
