I thought about that, and its a matter of finessing the sell price and the volume of shares to be sold - the issue is that with the shares trading today as XE, any sales today will reduce your total, which will in turn, affect the amount of shares you can purchase under the 1 for 8.5 spilt. The last SPP PDN had in 2019, the Record date for shares held was 7.00pm on that trading day, so effectively, you could be jeopardising your possible profits. The other point to be aware of, of course, is the capital gains event, and I'm sure all of us would be realising a capital gain on any shares sold today to raise financing for the purchase of our allotment (and there's also no guarantee that you'll be granted your entire allotment if there's an oversubscription - sure, you'll get your money back, but what will PDN shares be doing in the meantime? If they escalate dramatically, and it takes a week or so to get your cash back for the amount of shares you weren't able to purchase within your allotment ((due to oversubscription)), you might miss an opportunity there). In my situation, the magic number was 40 cents, and my allotment would be about 450,000, however, that would only get me an additional (approximately) 22,000 shares, over and above what I already hold, prior to any sales (the sums are relatively simple, but the concept might be difficult for some to comprehend). Factor in the capital gains on the shares I sell at 40 cents, and each of the allotted shares then cost me about 39.4 cents, so it's not worth the hassle of selling any of my existing holdings to finance at the 37 cent offering. Each person's situation would be, obviously, very different. I'm sure there'll be some ups and downs in the meantime, and probably, many investors/traders will likely sell their newly-acquired 37-cent parcels as soon as there's a chance at turning a profit.
One thing I've learned over the years, and it takes a little discipline, and a lot of number-crunching, and that is, sometimes, its better to do nothing. I'm a long-term holder, and don't expect to be doing anything for about 2 years at least, now. So it all depends on your personal investment outlook. Either way, I know PDN shares will be worth a helluva lot more in 6 months than they are today, so for those of us who have the vision, and the patience, I'm sure the rewards will be forthcoming. Then again, I could always flog my BMN holdings to pay for my allotment. That's something worth considering, also.....
