While not knocking your own desires, I would think that it is up to those who live there to decide how they want to live in the future ?
The happiest people I have observed on this planet in over 50 years of travel, was in a small village/kampong in central Burma, No power, no television, no cars, no politics, no money ~ just full bellies, a strong cultural heritage and community spirit.
If you can't respect a populations right to 'Self determination' Hap007 you are no better than the "Commies" you hate so much !
