Yeah this is a big question indeed and it's a mystery really....I guess a number of stars have to aline as we have both touched on:
Deep pockets, trials are costly
Time, trials take years
Contacts - can't just start a company with one person, need experts that have contacts, need some evidence of the drug first hand (PR) for example)
Need a relationship with a manufacturer...Bene are the only ones in this area that are FDA approved and have decades of experience...
...and it helps to have industry experience. Having said all of that, still interesting that no one, not even a club of Vets (eg Doctor's Associates starting up Subway for instance) didnt band together...in all that time, with all that evidence...sometimes the very things that can propel us sits right under our noses?
Don't forget, it wasn't a first time success...yes they did have OA and Hay Fever (in parallel) but Hay Fever didn't initially work (P2), so despite all of the above aligning...if it were a smaller company OR if all they went for was Hay Fever, it might have been the end of the line/story then and there and our little HC group here may not have existed *sad face*.
Since then, we have realised that route to administration may have something to do with it in this example....but you get my point.
Happy to hear from others on any ideas here too...we have discussed this a while ago as well...but no real other thoughts came to mind....
Hmm to answer your second question....good question, I can only offer my suspicions from talking and researching and I believe they have tinkered with it slightly, yes. Perhaps not too much but it has been modified to some degree is my understanding.
