There is a theory that all technology is primarily developed for the purposes of War.
Maybe one day small, safe, affordable, mobile nuclear power plants will be reality, but wind, solar and batteries are improving faster than nuclear is, so its highly improbably that nuclear will grow as an industry globally, or be able to economically competitive with alternatives.
The other thing is that even if Nuclear was just as good as Renewables it might not be the best choice for Australia, we have some of the best solar and wind resources in the world, so it makes sense that we utilize those resources rather than let them go to unused. Nuclear is better utilised in centralised situations not Australias geographically diversified needs.
The other thing is that Australia has a timeline where it has to transition from Coal power, not because of the federal government, or even international pressure, or domestic political pressure, we just need to replace them because they are breaking down and its only marginally economically viable to keep running them. Renewables are the fastest way to build generation.
Which is all off-topic for this thread to talk about nuclear because if Telstra CEO seriously suggested it, the media, the public, and even the lazy Telstra board would have a fit, it would rank up there with the worst PR a major corporation in Australia had ever experienced.
Irrespective of your personal views, nuclear is just not going to happen, and i suspect most people consider it has no relevence to Telstra.
