I am holding enough shares on the basis of my long term goals and time frame.
It is a question you need to ask yourself. What is your goal, and what do you want to achieve from investing in MGT (or any share for that matter.)
This also relates to your target price and time. So, if you have your goal, and your target price you can estimate how many you want to hold.
For eg, say you have a mortgage of $400k left on the account. You see the value of a share reaching 50c by your target year/time which say is 2025. So now you know approx amount of shares required to meet that target. I am NOT recommending you buy this much shares, but use it only as a guide.
Also, as sangabang said, small caps investment - use only what you can afford to lose.
Personally I am holding enough to see my partial retirement ( I will never fully retire, love my job) after selling 50 - 75% and use the rest for long term divvies, with franking credits.
