I must, with all due respect, disagree with your statement... " again and again all the damage done during the auction time".
The closing auction is where very large parcels of stock can change hands without fundamentally altering the price of the stock. If sellers had tried to offload 4 500 000 extra shares on market today, the price would have gone to about $10 or less and if buyers had tried to buy that amount on market the share could have gone to $30 dollars or more... market makers won't let that happen and thus the closing auction serves the purpose of protecting the market in the stock, even if it does go up or down by a few percent or so... better than the alternative chaos scenario.
