you are right, real estate is booming. The time to buy is over. The smart money is getting out because in the next year a number of things could happen. Labor victory at the next election and despite their comments so far , they will want to raise money to pay for their promises .Interestingly, NZ has just made punitive changes to negative gearing to slow down house price rises and make it easier for new home owners. Secondly, interest rates will only go up from here ,...the only question is when. Thirdly, we are close to the top of the cycle . World economies are being propped up by massive govt spending , and those chickens will be coming home to roost within a year, particularly in America where the left now has considerable power. They have already stated their intention to increase taxes on businesses and the wealthy.
So, where do we put our hard earned cash ? Right now , under the mattress looks good. Or if you are looking for a recession proof stock check out Woolies , Coles , Wesfarmers , but,.......everybody has already realised this and their stock prices have run hard lately,...except Coles so they are my choice right now. Oil spec choice is BRu for the short term and CVN for the long term.
