The major consideration currently driving MAK management is to ensure a supply of cash from the placement. A high sp would ensure that the subscription rate is high.
As for buying and selling a company's own shares, that sort of activity is illegal. I do not believe that is the reason that the sp is holding up. ASIC would come down hard and not worth the risk. Besides there are other methods available to provide a temporary lift in the sp.
