The managing director of the ABC says a skit that ran on last night's episode of the satirical program The Chaser's War on Everything was an error of judgment.

The ABC has apologised for the sketch, which sent up the Make A Wish Foundation that grants wishes to seriously ill children.

The foundation says the skit was offensive to the families it tries to help. Mark Scott says the segment should not have been approved to go to air.

"We have unreservedly apologised for airing that skit," he said.
