mate again you are referring to SPP's imo, a rights issue very very very rarely allows you to apply for more shares than you are netitled to. The only case this would happen is if it was NOT underwitten, you expect RIO to try and raise 14billion withoutr UNDERWRITERS???!
also there is no 'usual' dates or 'normal' dates, i have bought into many rights issues and many SPP's and there is nothing 'normal' about dates, every situation is different and it depends on the size of the cash asked for and market sentiment.
RIO is asking for 14 BILLION ? THAT AINT NORMAL!
