    Jokes aside, this is the calm before the storm. 6 months should be a different story. I feel like with 3D printing for parts, the hardest part is the CAD (computer assisted design). There is a huge push for engineering graduates and those in the design engineering field to become better experienced with the new designs and physics that 3D printing opens up. The CAM will be easy once the process is streamlined hence once they have orders in place, and orders likely for constant output over time, the profit margins will be high. The team is growing.

    Purpose of the position

    The purpose of this position is to implement Amaero’s manufacturing processes from receipt of the CAD files and drawings from a customer through to the finished component. This includes development of support structures, production of the raw part by additive manufacturing, post processing, finish machining, quality assessment and managing ancillary services that are required to meet the exacting requirements of Amaero’s customers.

    Amaero has manufacturing facilities in Notting Hill, Victoria, El Segundo, California and Edinburgh North, South Australia. This position will be based in the Edinburgh North facility.

    3D printing of metal components has potential application in the aviation, defence, space, high end automotive, biomedical and tooling markets.

    Key responsibilities & duties

    The key responsibilities will be to analyse the customer’s requirements and then, in conjunction with the Digital Manufacturing Manager, determine the required build process for each given part and the manufacturing processes that will be needed to meet the client’s specifications. The Additive Manufacturing Engineer will undertake builds and organise subsequent post processing. The Additive Manufacturing Engineer will also provide support to the Program Managers and the CEO in engaging customers to exploit the benefits of additive manufacturing technology.

    The overall responsibilities will include:

    • maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring excellent housekeeping
    • To contribute to design projects and develop build files
    • Operating metal 3D printing and post processing equipment as required
    • Compliance with AS9100 quality management system and the required documentation
    • Supervision of interns and casual staff
    • Liaison with customers and contractors
    • To foresee and manage any potential risk to operations
    • To meet and exceed production targets and agreed KPIs including Quality, Cost, Delivery and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
    • To regularly communicate with the management team and to present production, quality and safety performance reports to the team

    Academic or trade qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Materials or Aerospace Engineering.
    • Trade qualifications (CNC equipment) would be an advantage

    Work experience and skills

    To be considered for this opportunity you will demonstrate a proven track record in high value technical manufacturing and project management.

    You will have:

    • Knowledge of modern high tech manufacturing technologies and the international standards relevant to these
    • A broad understanding of materials and their capabilities
    • A broad understanding of CAD design processes
    • Experience with additive manufacturing processes.

    Other requirements

    This role requires that the incumbent obtains defence security clearances that permit them to receive sensitive confidential information which may include ITAR data. It will not be open to candidates without the necessary citizenship and working rights.
