We have a shortage of effective antibiotics more likely because the current crop of antibiotics has been blithely over-used by the medical fraternity, animal industries and the public demanding antibiotics for treatment of maladies not requiring antibiotics eg viral infections. And bacteria are very clever and adaptable !
