I went through wotsup's posts, especially the last few before he shut down and I have a feeling he may have had a small stroke. My father had several minor strokes and it seems very similar to me. The language changed and became almost incoherent. My own father began to speak in cliches, which is not really dialogue, it's go to groups of words that require little or no thought. It substitutes for true dialogue. You see many drunk people doing it, or those on drugs. It's an auxiliary language when the brain disengages and I think that's what wotsup was kind of doing.
At the time I was going to suggest that the posters back off from him because I thought he was in real trouble, but it only lasted a couple of days and he was gone. As HC was probably his most consistent outlet for his beliefs, I think there is a real and serious problem with the fellow.
The old crew got personal rather than defending their own ideas. The fundamentalists are immovable objects and those that left being in general an older group, we have had plenty of time to develop robust egos.
The latest crop are all but impossible to engage with.
