imo, they're ur shares, u have the right to ask management anything u like.

why do you continue to hold UMC?
id be really interested in ur answer.
(im not attacking u, im just curious)

u mention that some shareholders' enquiries were met with frosty responses from management.

this is the same management that took the time to attend a shareholder party.
they could have politely declined for any number of valid reasons.
but they didnt.
and we heard first hand accounts from those lucky enuff to be there of managements enthusiasm for UMC's future.
(people are probably sick of hearing about them attending the $2 party, i reference it purely as a counter point to the frosty recesponses instances)

UMC told us they have had talks WITH and FROM 3rd parties.
but we havent heard anything since.
are they still on-going??
i dont know.
how long would it take to work out a deal?
its been just over 6 months, is that enuff time to negotiate a deal?
others on here have a better handle on that than myself, maybe they can help.

i totally agree that some direction from UMC would be warmly welcomed.
i guess im prepared to wait a little while longer for it.
am i passing up other opportunities?
most definitely, especially after seeing BCI and a few others bolt this last week.

but i guess im backing management to deliver shareholder value.
unless i have reason to believe this is not the case, i will hold UMC for sum time to come.
imo, silence is not a reason to assume nothing is going on.
