If interested y'all have a look at CTP. There onto the biggest coal discovery in history by all appearances, with over a trillion tins so far and still drilling. Its in the SA NT border area about miway from E to W.
They are aiming at coal to liquids, via a possible no of routes but at moment by underground gasification. As this area appears to hold as much coal as the rest of the world combined, between 100 and 200m in the first 1000 m with holes 50 kms apart, open at depth. BG is in with them for 20%.
Now this seems relevant to MLX, as a source of sulphur. They are aiming at a world scale plant near Alice Springs, to the north of the basin, to do the G-T-L bit. Thats going to be a lot closer for MLX than hauling the stuff in from overseas, re haulage costs. All that coal could be interesting too, as its called stranded coal. Too far from the coast. El cheapo?
The 49% iron at Wingellina..a big opportunity too?
Hmmm all that iron in Wingellina deposit. Its fine grained, no blasting, or crushing, about 50%. Coking coal+iron+nickel+limestone put carefully in a in blast furnace produces stainless steel. Now there is a valuable product. The CTP coal is rumoured to be extremely high volatility. More than Ipswich coal (Qld) which takes the cake so far in Australia. Yet to be confirmed. There may be water mixed up with the coal, this is in the Great Artesian basin. That could be useful also.
But Im not sure Id like to be standing beside a blast furnace in the Simpson desrt at 50 degrees in the shade. OK if im being hosed down though. A blast furnace woudnt mind the heat a bit.
As an indication this coal deposit is mainly Permian (the age of the mega oilfields) and looks like it may exceed the combined total of all other coal deposts on earth put together. Really.
Im just shooting the breeze a bit, but it just could be that MLX could have a trifecta of opportunity here if my suspicions are borne out as to coal type.
Its like little MLX mouse looking at a Mount Everest of cheese dropped ouside its hole. Im a strategic analyst I suppose so tend to look at the big picture. It paid off with CSG.
The way things are heading the rail route on the Ghan could resemble the Pilbara ones in ten years time with massive trains, but it would be electrified to cut fuel costs using cheap from Central Australian energy to generate the power, or using cheap diesel from the Alice.
