re: $1.5m to $6m writeoff I would expect that they would announce that the operating profit,before the China write-off,was $9mil for the six months and they'll determine how much of the $6mil spent on China will be written off before the half yearly is released at the end of August - this is because the jv hasn't officially announced they're abandoning China until sometime next month.
