The PM's comments were concerning but I could take some comfort that he was clearly speaking from his personal view and not policy. And therefore I can make the case in my mind that his reasoning was to appeal to the SE coast, deflect responsibility, and let Pitt take the heat for the decision whilst still appealing to his core Nth QLD constituency.

But Wicks's statement is more concerning.

"but the Prime Minister has made it clear that he is saying no to PEP11.”

Ask yourself ...What are her motivations behind this statement?

If she knows it is likely to be rejected then she is getting on the front foot to take some of the credit - makes political sense.

If she knows is likely to be approved then that statement will make her look like a liar or at least very deceptive by the electorate she's desperately trying to appeal to. The small short term gain of speaking at the rally would be completely overshadowed but the long term damage to her credibility once her statement is proven misleading.
She would just be making the people she is trying to impress, feel furious and betrayed.

No politician would be so naive.
