If you are a manufacturer of bucket liners, work boots, car tyres or many other products, if an expensive ingredient that can double the life of your product presents itself, why would you include it if it results in halving your sales? As a runner I go through a couple of pairs of runners a year, lasting around 1000km. If they made the soles more durable they'd be simply reducing sales.
