A oil and or gas field is not like a petrol tank. You can never know exactly how much you have or how much you might actually get out before it becomes uneconomic to continue. Then it is only with hindsight that you know if producing from well 1 will decrease production from well 2- and by how much. Each well, field, oil province etc is different.
Sometimes an oiler gets it wrong- nowhere to hide- they inform the market- the world moves on.
Invest according to your appetite for risk.
Do not invest more than you can afford to lose.
Keep your sense of humour.
