    Interesting thread; some very valid comments by a number of posters

    Personally, I think the battery technology is great and the advances the auto industry have made in developing them will be of great benefit. I believe the greatest benefit will be in storeage for the home; the credits you get for putting power back into the grid are negligible; it will be better just to store it yourself and use it when needed

    I also believe that for city commuters and the like battery powered cars may be the way to go

    However, for rural people who regularly need utes etc for towing, carrying heavy loads etc I don't think battery power is the answer

    I see hydrogen-power as the answer

    If anyone wants to take on a 15/20 year wager of $1, I'll bet that in the future their will be hydrogen-powered vehicles that can generate their own power as they travel along - sure, they may be supplemented by an electric motor to get the moving etc

    Just my humble thoughts
