Because everything old is new again. BNPL is really no different to the store charge accounts your grandparents had. The stores actually lost money on the credit provision. They made up for it in increased sales. Unfortunately the BNPL providers ignored the three essential elements - a monopoly, account keeping fees and minimum spends - needed to make store credit provision a viable business.
