IF Australia backs a patent waiver then we would/should/must reconsider the use of MPL for covid. Why would we investors pay and with all the risk just to have have no reward.

I know this sounds horrid but seriously, why see years and years of cost, risk and investment go out the window and have the science and IP effectively stolen. I would be concerned that once this broad spectrum drug got a emergency use “Covid waiver” then we are in very dangerous water.

As much as I can see the political point scoring that comes with saying pharma can wear the pain because they are expensive/restrictive, you can kiss goodbye basically all further scientific investment in Covid.

PharmAust should simply turn to MND, Cancer to protect our value and investment. Investigate virus once the pandemic is done.

So easy for all those folk who don’t in pharma at this end of the market to say “waive patents” as it would be all gain and no pain but I am absolutely opposed. If the American president wants to compensate then that is a different discussion but that is not the case.

on the bright side, big pharma will make that path hell for Biden. Maybe they can protect our investment as a by-product of their own defence.
