You said it better then I. To get at targets under the pit , you have to step out a long way with a fair old angle on the drill. It all costs.
As for the water and pumpimg out the pit, Would the company need any sort of enviro licence to discharge the water into any surrounding creek , river etc. There looks to be a lot of it in the presentation photo.
