I worked in PNG as a contractor and unfortunately local police and even PNG military- Navy etc. are only payed something like K4.00- 4.50per hour. The challenge becomes, you cannot begin paying local nationals well above the standard- regardless of company profits-employed in a mine more than government employees that are built up to feel “important” in their roles?
Pretty good way to cause dissension and conflict in a country that unfortunately is full of corruption.
