agree, there is a need for confirmation of these reports. the media often tend to twist things around and blow everything out of proportion. who knows on what authority this guy has made such statements. he may be full of it and may not necessarily be representative of the coalition.

there are other advanced projects in greenland. Quadra has the Mljamberg deposit (rich moly deposit), there is the Black Angel zinc mine (from memory) but not a great project. I think that there are established diamond and ruby deposits also. then there's oil and gas exploration potential which over the long term will in my view get the most attention. Theres an aluminium plant also.

its hard to gaugue the current needs of greenland and in particular how urgently they need to act. the environmental concerns are bogus in my view but ultimately a small country with what i imagine to be 'simple' folk may not necessarily see it this way. it wasnt too long ago that the idea of mining uranium anywhere around the world was frowned upon. the issue i have is that a small tight nit community such as greenland may still have this mentality especially givent the missing nuclear bomb incident from the 1960s.

this guy may just be playing hard ball politics and trying to show that a foreign company cannot just roll up to his country and do as they please. he may want a bribe, he may want to be convinced that there is no environmental/health concers, etc. GGG may need to do some form of independent environmental & social impact statement.

Anyway, i think the project will eventually get off the ground but when is another issue. Who will own the project then is another factor.
