what I take out of the announcement is it’s the same “platform” as Visa and MC, the service will allow UnionPay card holders to split their payments with merchants who have signed up to SPT’s software. Remember, the merchant wears the cost to give the ability of splitting the cost of the sale to their customer... or as others have posted cheeky merchants charging a “Splitit charge” to the customer $20-30 on their average sales order.
This is why I’m not as sold on the announcement as some are. Merchants are the key to SPT’s tech and on boarding is the most important part (in my opinion).
We need big industry signings or billion dollar retail merchants.
