Thanks _ebit. To my mind this gadget separates the sand and gas by expanding the area which the gas the gas flows through - thus lowering the velocity and thus allowing the gas to drop out. The problem with this is that the gadget will eventually fill up with sand and will have to be emptied. Having two and cycling them, solves this problem.
