This is the coldry process.

1. Brown coal has 30 to 70% water content
, if the coal doesn't have the amount of moisture
water is added, not much needed.

2. then the coal and water are feed into an attritioner
that rubs the coal faces togeather which starts an exothermic reaction, heat is produced in other words
and water is produced as a natural process extruded from the coal.the reaction excelerates when the coal which is now extruded under low pressure to form a plasticide mixture and is feed onto a conveyer belt.

3. Warm air between 35 to 40c heats the extruded mixture for an hour, the coal contracts and toughens and is then moved to a pack bed dryer via conveyor belt.

4. The pack bed dryer takes more moisture from the coal and then the moisture is cooled as condensation occurs in this process water is formed, in other words removed from the coal which is now classed as coldry, coal dry.

Seems to me the process is all about taking the water from the coal, and in effect this produces a better cleaner coal
that produces a fair amount of water for commercial use.

Thats how i see it, hope this helps. It seems like a simple process, but on a grand scale the process would have to be monitored as any commercial fuel industry is.
