Today we see new investors moving into PEP 11 based on the fact that the conservative side of politics has defied the odds to win a critical election in the Upper Hunter where jobs versus greens was a key issue.

A Labor politician said the decision by Labor to "oppose the gas generator" had been part of the reason for the swing to the Nats. To be clear, Labor said it was against a gas project and voters told them to get lost!

Federally, Labor will be working out whether it needs to back a few hundred welded-on Greens voters out protesting on surfboards, or the thousands of workers/union members who are worried about their jobs in traditional industries that are now under attack.

As an example, Donald Trump came to power on the votes of the American "rustbelt", where disenfranchised middle class workers felt their voice wasn't being heard. Love him or hate him, Trump vowed to bring their jobs back.

The Uppper Hunter is similar. Blue collar workers fear for their livelihoods in the face of so many people calling for everything to be shut down and replaced with solar panels. the average worker who has put 20-30 years in one industry finds it very confronting to be told that they might have to "reskill" for the green economy. This is especially true in small towns where there is one main employer (which is now considered to be "dirty").

The strong election result gives Minister Pitt, a National Party representative, a louder voice in decisions. He will be reminding the Coalition that the government will win the election if they put jobs and the economy first.

Jobs!! Millions of Australians have just been through the horror of losing their jobs - or hours/income - during a pandemic. They are sensitive. They don't want to go through that again. Job security will be high on their agenda.

Projects like PEP 11 are part of the narrative of jobs, economy, stability etc.
