The May futures are stale now because the settlement of these futures is the average price during the month and as the month is pretty much done, that average will no longer change.
By quoting May futures your basically just telling everyone what the average price for IO was during May - thanks we all know that, not very informative.
The correct contract to now use is the June contract as that contract is debating the average IO price for June - which is in the future, not the past.
