I think currently we should not base our opinions on the fundamentals, TA or common sense rather shaky sentiment and uncertainty because these rule now. We tend to go back to checking the fundamentals while trying to reinforce our own rationale. We have done that before we made our choices/investments.

IMO we are closer to potential panic fueled climate and definitely punting than intelligent investing. In such environment not much stuff makes sense....BUT creates opportunities. Fastforward 3-6 months, the scenario may be somewhat different, and it will show us that our own research was right even though our waiting period had to be slightly prolonged. But - oh well!

If I am looking to make 10% return on the capital invested over that period it is still much more profitable than sitting on my cash or having it tied in a term deposit.

That's 30-40% return per annum. I'll take that anyday.

Superannuation fund returns fell 13.3 per cent in the 2008-09 financial year, the biggest drop since the introduction of compulsory super in 1992, according to estimates from research firm Chant West.

The slumping returns in median growth funds follows a loss of 6.9 per cent in 2007-08 and marks two consecutive years of losses as the global financial crisis continued to wallop the retirement savings of Australians.


Super fund members may take heart from the positive returns in recent months. In May, median growth superannuation funds returned 1.3 per cent, following a 3.4 per cent rise in April, Chant West said.
