I may be biased (figure out why lol) but some of these statements re: chinese control are a bit silly.

Of course the chinese govt will try to leverage as much as possible. What govt in the world would not. As for playing hardball, what do you think Rio and BHP were doing with iron ore prices during the boom times? Why do you think they got spooked into securing their supply? (Rio siphoning off 10% under force majure to flog on spot markets, forcing a huge price increase 80% etc.) Also lack of similar govt focus on say Brazilian or Jap investment will naturally raise paranoia. What if this was Vale etc.

Nursery, sorry to hear about your experiences in korea. It was an unnuecessary war from Aust's POV that was escalated by Mao's paranoia combined with Macarthur's preening ego. BOttom line is the Koreans should have fought it out between themselves but in context of cold war strategy that wasn't going to happen was it.

But back to LYC, it takes all sorts so to speak, people like Nursery will vote with his shares if given the chance and vice versa for the chicago school worshipping free marketeers lol. Unless there is another offer what option does LYC have?

Is there any wiggle room left in negotiation? Because the better the deal the better it is for ALL shareholders and ALL australians.
