not too sure what watso's parents paid for a block in about 1953 - but it was only a few months wages (could have been about 75 pound) lol- and watso's father bid for it at auction, and did not know what block he bought, till after the auction - he simply wanted to buy a block (several blocks auctioned), which was not far from work.

first house (just house - not land), was a house, that he purchased in south perth, then he shifted the timbers etc etc - and slowly built an asbestos clad, 2 bedroom house. three children, shared the one bedroom - but eventually a 3rd bedroom was built.

the house is still standing (with some more extensions).

watso is not too sure, why people need such big houses these days, with ensuites, two toilets, games room, family room, tv room etc etc. watso - but heh, if that is what people want, and if they are prepared to pay, then so be it

governments are not interested in providing cheap housing, as that would lower collections from stamp duty etc etc - but, hey, it makes good politicking, to talk about "affordable housing" - but then do nothing about it.

there sure is a land shortage in australia. that is more than obvious, when one sees that there are about 2m people in western australia - and only about 3m sq km
