"MPower intends to augment its portfolio of 5MW solar projects with 5MW of DC-coupled
battery storage when doing so will enhance project returns. Adding energy storage
capabilities will increase revenue by harbouring excess solar power generation, which
would otherwise be lost due to network export limits. It also allows for solar power export
to be “time-shifted” to periods of higher spot market prices."

"3.3.2. Automatic Exemption in Embedded Networks
Where the generating systems that are connected to a distribution system or transmission system
through an embedded network at a parent connection point, have a combined total nameplate
rating of less than 5MW, each person who owns, operates or controls those generating systems will
be automatically exempt from the requirement to register as a Generator. This exemption is
subject to conditions (a) and (b) set out in section 3.3.1 above."

Storage will need to be added to the name plate rating if its AC coupled. So to remain an exempt installation, they need to keep below 5MW by DC coupling.

Hard to see how the financials for storage will stack up on this restriction.
