I thoroughly agree with the first two points.... but imo nukes won't make a damn bit of difference.....
there is another reason for China's behaviour and looking back its easy to see. John Howard and Downer had excellent relations with China.... they left them alone and did deals... this is what mattered at the time.
Rudd inspired disdain for his arrogance and Gillard/Carr did much to return our relations to an even keel.
Abbott was belligerent, Turnbull was disingenuous and Morrison has proved a fool. A gradual decline in sensible efforts to work with China leading to dismay and the dissembling and incompetence which the Chinese seem to hate more than anything else.
Loss of face. Australian diplomacy over the last 8 years has been incompetent and caused us to "lose face".
