A year before the Communists killed many hundreds of Chinese students in Tiananmen Square; I had an AK-47 pointed at me outside the Big Duck restaurant near Tiananmen Square by the biggest Chinese policeman you have ever seen. All because I had a camera and was taking pictures.
Then I had a Chinese spook on the train from Beijing to Shanghai sharing my train cabin. I knew he was a spook because back in those days, any Chinese who did not wear the standard party issue green or blue suit was assumed to be a spook or under cover secret police.
Then here in Australia, I had yet another run in with these nice people who represent the Chinese government when one of their consular people was trying to photograph me during the swimming championships. They had one of their drug cheating swimmers inside who had been banned from the meet after Australian Customs in Sydney discovered performance enhancing drugs on her.
Then I was run over by another consular official driving his big Merc with diplomatic plates. He purposely turned his vehicle at me in order to run me down. Nice.
When you play with the devil, don't be surprised to learn that the devil is no angel.
The Chinese government is involved in espionage via the internet and elsewhere on a scale that would make your head spin. There is no doubt that Chinese spies {students} and others {diplomats} are working here in Australia. It would be fanciful to imagine otherwise.
Whilst the Chinese market represents huge opportunities for SOME businesses, it must never be forgotten who you are dealing with when one engages with the communist Chinese Government.
