my quick google search on thorium was its 4 times more abundant than Uranium, More stable than Uranium especially since TH isn't fissile by itself (U is fissile by itself) usually mixed with Uranium and Plutonium in fuel rods.
don't know where you got the very radioactive from but doesn't seem to be what science says about TH
