As an example the list price for Yaz another brand name OC (also used for acne) is about US$500 for three months but with discount coupons and other health insurance rebates it would be much cheaper for most users. So US$200 / month for a new innovative OC product would seem very much around the mark. Remember this is a retail list price. The Pharmacy will have a decent margin, the wholesaler will have their cut and negotiate a distribution deal with Mayne Pharma. So the amount Mayne will receive is probably not much more than US$100/month supply at best. By the time manufacturing on costs, marketing costs, licensing costs plus royalties are considered, Mayne Pharma deserves a decent price and margin while it is free from generic competition through its patent protection. Yaz now has generic product competition which are heavily discounted.
