https://www.playtoearn.online/2021/06/09/animoca-to-continue-work-on-crypto-space-commander/The game was launched around 2018 (1st gen). The interesting aspect is that by reinvigorating and enhancing the original game, it is a test-bed for demonstrating how game specific NFTs retain more longer-term value and utility than traditional digital items where ownership is retained by the gaming company. Thus, it offers the potential for “dormant” in-game blockchain assets to be re-valued as the refreshed game gives them a new lease of life.
I’m aware that in theory an NFT (such as a spaceship purchased for use in CSC) could be used in other games (i.e. interoperability), but are there any current examples or is this more of a grand vision of the future of blockchain gaming?
If true interoperability proves to be an inherent technical/commercial/legal challenge, at least over the short to medium term, then Animoca’s reputation and broad stable of blockchain games might produce a sustainable competitive advantage. For example, if a CSC spaceship had some game playing properties (use value) in a suite of Animoca games, this would presumably be more beneficial than owning a CSC spaceship that can only be used in a single game.
