Maybe a couple of caveats to go with your post.
I'm no statistics whiz so correct me if I'm off base here -but I seem to recall that an R squared correlation of about 0.7 or higher is needed before you start feeling confident about a trend...
Also, my personal favourite: Correlation does not equal Causation. So lets not confuse this as necessarily being a primary motivator for the silver price; it could just be a byproduct of other more dominant factors at play.
Not saying your necessarily not onto something here, but I think you at least need to qualify a few things.
Anyway, I went to the link you provided and the 'surplus' you refer to is actually 'implied net investment'. SO I fail to see how that is fascinating. I am probably missing something so let me know.
I also notice that this 'implied net investment' represents a small portion (<<10%) of the total demand.
