Without our ABC which is govt owned on behalf of the Australian people, the billionaire media moguls would control all media in this country. Not a good prospect imo.
The ABC operates regardless which govt comes into power and has a Board which is representative and nominated by the govt. For example the Chair of the Board was appointed by the Coalition govt.
The problem the minority of anti ABC shills have is that they believe that all media should be peddling hard right stuff. On HC they attack not only the ABC but also private media when they also are not seen as peddling Hard right stuff.
I guess some of the anti ABC ultra conservatives are so blinded by their own wacky ideology they cannot comprehend that the ABC must be doing a good job because it has operated continuously under both govts and predominantly during times of coalition govts. Both Labor and the Coalition know that if they interfere with the operations of the ABC they would face an electoral shellacking. It would not be in the National interest to not have a public broadcaster. It was first established nearly 90 years ago in 1932 and the first television broadcast began in 1956 under the Menzies govt. Our Aunty ABC has evolved into a national icon and is the most trusted media in the land. Its charter is in the peoples and nations best interests.
